The Death Card - My Version

Finally finished a painting which took years to complete. It's my version of the Tarot card for Death.

I started this painting in a visionary art workshop and little by little I worked on it. It's been with me to the beach at OCNJ many times as I would paint during my family's beach week.

The images of the candles and the hourglass do represent time. I had to include some skeleton parts for Death which seemed appropriate. I chose a glass skull for it's transparency. The main background is a cave with endless tunnels behind the main subjects. The cave is made up of stalactites and stalagmites of spirits and those dead through the past as guides. There is a frog as the gatekeeper at the opening which is the way out.
